Goodbye, Mr. Hisaw

Hisaw

There sure has been a lot of death this month.

Farrah Fawcett : unfortunate.

Billy Mayes: unexpected.

Ed McMahon: unwanted.

And Michael Jackson: unavoidable.

But as the world mourns these people with much fanfare, Garvon Hisaw passed on without society’s notice.

Garvon was man greatly admired by my family and countless others.

On the outside, he worked over 30 years at A&P groceries in management.

But on the inside, he was a spiritual giant.

Letting Jacko Go...To Heaven?

Michael-jackson1 It's been about a week since Michael Jackson's "shocking" death.

Come on people.

Did this really surprise anyone?

Maybe the timing of it.

But this guy has been on death row for almost 10 years, and on suicide watch for the last 5.

Failed comeback attempts, babies over balconies, pedophile accusations, increasingly erratic behavior.

As Neverland slowly became no man's land, the magical mystique faded away.

On the day he died, I was fueling up the FJ and heard "Billy Jean" over the loudspeaker.

And I grieved.

Not as a die hard fan, but out of concern for his soul.

The Presidential "Stink Eye"

Obamastink3

I saw this on The Drudge Report yesterday and thought it would be great to post here.

I've never noticed it before, but it's pretty creepy.

As the summer begins, White House watchers have spotted a new look by President:

Obama: The Evil Eye!

Staffers have joked about the menacing glance, which comes when the president meets with world leaders who are not aligned with his progressive view.

White House photographers have captured the "evil eye" in recent weeks, during sessions with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Colombia's Alvaro Uribev.

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi got hit with the commander's malocchio last week in the Oval office.

And at least one White House reporter has been on the receiving end of the daggers during a press conference.

Jon & Kate Plus H8TE

Jonkateh8te_wm

Well, I guess today's a fitting day to post this here.

The women in my life watch this show. I follow it moderately. Jon and Kate are having martial problems.

I weighed in on this earlier in a Facebook thread:

Well, I guess I gotta weigh in on this. Not sure what's up with all the demonizing of Jon. After all of Kate's nagging and shrillness towards him, I don't blame him for being distant. While I certainly don't condone divorce, I wouldn't want to be married to a harpee like her anyway. Poor kids are caught in the middle.

Anyway, here's a composite I created to reflect the present Gosslin situation.

Notice some of the subtleties, like the towering Kate, standing tall above everyone (symbolic of her ego). Then there's the children walking in the valley of her shadow of death. And the distant Jon, detached and isolated.

In addition, notice the dichotomy of their opposing positions, with corresponding colors of red (anger) and blue (sadness).

Actually, I'm making all this up.

But read into what you will.

Father's Day Memories

Dadpool

Here's a blast from my past, in honor of my Dad on Father's Day.

This year is an extraordinary situation: we are separated by an entire continent.

I'm on the west coast in Los Angeles.

He's on the east coast in Virginia.

Out competing on the Putt Putt circuit.

And this picture reminds me that, after all these years, we're still pool buddies.

Happy Father's Day to all the Dad's out there (and to mine too)!
