It's been about a week since Michael Jackson's "shocking" death.
Come on people.
Did this really surprise anyone?
Maybe the timing of it.
But this guy has been on death row for almost 10 years, and on suicide watch for the last 5.
Failed comeback attempts, babies over balconies, pedophile accusations, increasingly erratic behavior.
As Neverland slowly became no man's land, the magical mystique faded away.
On the day he died, I was fueling up the FJ and heard "Billy Jean" over the loudspeaker.
And I grieved.
Not as a die hard fan, but out of concern for his soul.
It's really a sad situation, and our prayers for the rest of the Jackson's should concern their salvation.
That's really what it all boils down to.
Because I'd hate to think of the "King of Pop" standing now in the presence of the King of Perdition.
Reports of fans committing suicide are equally disturbing.
They believe in their misguided hearts that dying with him is better then living without him.
Though odds are they wouldn't want to end up at his current destination.
But recently, I've read an encouraging report that involves gospel legend Andrae Crouch and his recent meetings with Jackson:
A spokesman for the Crouches had this to add: "Andrae and Sandra did in fact visit with Michael Jackson two times, once at the recording studio, and once at his home in the last two months, as recently as three weeks ago, asking for prayer concerning the anointing of the Holy Spirit, and how he could make his music more 'spiritual.' So Andrae and Sandra explained to him about the anointing and about Jesus. He wanted to know what makes your hands go up, and makes you 'come out of yourself,' and what gives a 'spirituality' to the music? He then requested to hear his favorite song that he loves and wanted the(m) to sing to him, so they ... joined hands and sang together, and he said, 'It was beautiful.'
The beauty of God's grace is that it changes our entire beings, from the inside out.
Jackson's life was wrecked by his desire to be filled with something. The aching chasm in his heart longed for more.
Underneath the glamorous and extravagant lifestyle was a scared child, who went wrong somewhere along the way.
What a great victory it would be if he allowed Jesus to liberate him from his confusion.
You never know, mayybe Jacko will meet us at Heaven's gates, performing his latest dance maneuver.
The cloud walk.
