Today, Nintendo finally put all of the cards on the table (or did they?) and gave up the release date, pricing, and availablity of their revolutionary game console, the Nintendo Wii. Scheduled for a November 19th launch in America, the system will debut at a price point of $250.
The pricing and launch date is especially significant for two reasons: [1] Everyone believed that Nintendo was going to do a pre-emptive attack on Sony's PlayStation 3 (due out November 17th) and launch as early as October, and [2] This marks the first time Nintendo has ever launched a game console for over $200.
But by adding $50 more to the price, you get several extra goodies that easily could have been sold seperately: [1] Wii Sports, a sports compilation game that offers a great sample of the Wii's controler uses, [2] A stand for the controller's sensor bar, [3] One nunchuck controller attachment.
In addition, Nintendo is planning for an unprecented 30 games during the launch window (translation: by Christmas) and at least half of that number on November 19th, including the release of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. This marks the first time in history that a Zelda game has been available upon a Nintendo system's release.
