Dramatist Emory Colvin: Larger Than Life?

My good friend and fellow Mississippi College Communication major alum Emory Colvin recently returned to MC on November 16th to perform her one woman show, "The Thread," on the stage of the Aven Little Theatre.

Those who were able to attend the show, which was held over two consecutive days, certainly experienced history. Colvin's Dramatic Encounter ministry has been lighting up the stage all over the South, and it's not very often that a graduate of the Theatre program at MC gets to return as a performer so soon.

Agents of God's Glory

In a recent devotional from Strength For The Journey, Joe Stowell wrote a very good article that draws a parallel between earthly agents of professional athletes and Christians who are eternal agents for the biggest "free agent" in history -- Jesus Christ:

Every once in a while, my agent friend and I will talk about some of the athletes he represents. He has a couple of big names on his list, and I’ve found myself thinking, “Wow, you’re an agent for him? No way! That would be amazing.” But when I think about it, you and I have a far greater privilege and calling. We are agents of God—hired by the price He paid on the cross—to spread the “stats” of His glory everywhere we go.

Dean Agrees to be Civil, Bashes Bush

In an interview with Fox News Sunday's Chris Wallace, DNC Chair Howard Dean was discussing the party's new strategy regardless of the election results.

Win or lose tonight, Dean suspected a mandate for change from the American people, and gosh darn it, the Democrats will be at the forefront of that change.

He went on to explain that the Dem's will turn over a new leaf of civility, focusing on the issues at hand and serving the American public with dignity without picking petty fights or engaging in character assassination with Republicans.

Then he began to bash the Bush administration.

We've Already Won Iraq?

In the midst of the election results, I take comfort in the following words of DEMOCRAT Orson Scott Card, in an excerpt from his must-read article "The Only Issue This Election Day":

The "War on Terror"

I recently read an opinion piece in which the author ridiculed the very concept of a "war on terror," saying that it makes as much sense as if, after Pearl Harbor, FDR had declared a "war on aviation."

Without belaboring the obvious shortcomings of the analogy, I will agree with the central premise. The name "war on terror" clearly conceals the fact that we are really at war with specific groups and specific nations; we can no more make war on a methodology than we can make war on nitrogen.

However, there are several excellent reasons why "War on Terror" is the only possible name for this war.
