Last night on Fox News, Fred Thompson and his wife Jeri sat down for an exclusive interview with Sean Hannity, marking the first official interview where the would-be First Lady has spoken publicly since Thompson announced his candidacy back in September.
Anytime Fred can speak from the heart on his beliefs and positions on the issues it's always entertaining, and I had really looked forward to watching this. The only criticism I had was for the first segment they had their two young kids sitting with them, and the daughter in his lap was really distracting from the serious answers Fred was giving.
I know what they were going for with the whole "family" image, but it was a huge relief for me when they came back from the break and the kids were gone.
In the third part of the interview, Fred touches on the manufactured Rush Limbaugh controversy, challenges of campaigning, and his response to Dr. James Dobson's attacks on Thompson's faith (where Thompson remarked that he's not going to "dance to anyone else's tune").
One underlying concern I have read from anti-Fred pundits is the fact that only Hannity was present for the interview, with no Alan Colmes to balance things out.
But this is nothing new.
On pre-taped. sit-down interviews with political personalities Hannity handles the conservatives and Colmes speaks with the liberals. It's only when the guests appear live on the show that both hosts get chances to ask questions.
Believe me, Fred Thompson is not "afraid" of Alan Colmes, or Bill O'Reilly for that matter, and I have all confidence that in the coming months, Thompson would be happy to appear on both shows.
