Ever since I attended a campaign fundraiser in the summer 2007, I have been waiting for my chance to vote for Fred Thompson.
Following his campaign vigorously, I quickly grew confident that this man was the perfect leader for the highest office in the land.
Fred had made a believer out of me, and I was willing to support him by any means, even financially (which was the first time I had ever donated to a political campaign).
Things were going fine.
Fred had strong showings in the debates.
Momentum was building.
But something happened on the way to the White House.
So as Fred Heads across the country were grieving their loss, Fred faded into oblivion (along with the bright future we had envisioned for our country).
And I waited for the day that Louisiana would hold a presidential primary.
In Fred's last public address, he requested that his supporters, "Stand strong."
Who was I to let Fred down?
In response to my excitement over Fred still being on the ballot here in Louisiana, people have responded with skepticism:
"Yeah, but it's too bad it won't count for anything."
Technically, you could say that voting for anyone but McCain at this time is pointless (even Romney supporters, according to this line of thinking, shouldn't vote for Romney, even though he just dropped out this week).
But I am voting on principle. I will not be stopped from pulling the lever for the only true consistent conservative in the race, Fred Dalton Thompson.
