A funeral was held this morning for a special woman who went to Heaven on Monday.
The news hit me hard, as this was the second death for me this year of a person I've admired since childhood.
I just wish I could have been there today, but since I am separated by a proverbial geographical chasm, I decided to reflect on my thoughts on Mrs. Dot here.
What else can be said about such a classy, virtuous woman? She seemed to carry the world on her back for over 50 years, graciously serving her Lord, her family, and her church.
Anyone she met, she greeted with a smile. A tender smile that shined the love of Jesus.
Dot Johnston was a legend in the faith, and a inseparable part of Istrouma's great heritage.
I have placed this woman on a pedestal, and rightfully so. Her and Mr. Jimmie were great examples for my father when he was young, and I am so honored to have called her "friend" as well in my own life.
As we mourn her passing, we celebrate her life, and what a long, impactful life she lived.
After her husband and two of her sons left this world, the Lord left her behind.
Though His purpose was not clear, she obediently waited and served patiently.
Now she is welcomed into eternity by Mr. Jimmy, Mike and Mickey -- along with all the countless lives she has touched.
We rally around her remaining son Danny, and look forward to the soon coming day when we'll all be reunited.
But for now, as we too are left to patiently wait and serve, we are comforted by one vision:
Imagining Mrs. Dot's eyes lighting up and the dazzle of her smile when the King of Kings told her, "Well done."
