Tomorrow night America will say goodbye to "a TV treasure".
And boy, are they rubbing it in.
This promo is enough to send me into mourning for a month.
You can be sure that Monk-o-philes nationwide will be bitter-sweetly celebrating the close of a Friday night tradition.
USA will be "wrapping things up," by running a Monk marathon tomorrow counting down to "Mr. Monk and the End, pt.2".
Part one of the finale was pretty epic, and rather serious for a change.
Part two sure has a lot of ground to cover in 44 minutes, including matching a lot of expectations, which are admittedly high for some.
Though I may have my personal preferences, I take comfort in the fact that the writers and producers were able to create a final storyline that fits their vision.
Going out the way they wanted to.
But I can certainly understand the high emotions involved by the fans (who have become co-owners of the show, in a sense).
After all, Monk was smart, entertaining, and relatively wholesome -- definitely the last of its kind.
As a fan since season 4, I can proudly say I've seen every episode of the show since then (I own every volume on DVD).
And I have to say, I've really been enjoying the final season, but the end came rather ubruptly.
I really thought they would have taken more time to build the foundation for the end before pulling the trigger for the closing episodes.
Usually USA "splits" the season with a break over the end of the year with the season returning in January).
This time, there was no break and the show played straight through.
I was hoping that we would get as much mileage out of season 8 as possible.
But whether we like it or not, we're here at the end...with many unknowns.
Will Adrian (who was more concerned with vomiting than death) overcome his fatal poisoning?
What was Trudy really doing that caused her murder?
And what was the rest of her video message to Monk?
Could the judge really the mastermind behind it?
Randy Newman has even written a new theme song for the final episode.
Final case.
Final time.
We'll miss you Adrian.
You have changed my life, helping me to take pride in my OCD tendencies.
I'll use some Purell in your honor to clean my hands after my sinus fluid sobbing.
