If it seems like I've been neglecting this site, you would be correct.
I've been spending my time getting a new website off the ground called Sore Thumbs News.
Launched during this year's E3, Sore Thumbs News is my attempt to re-enter into the gaming industry press racket.
Playing games has always been an inconsistent hobby of mine, as has been designing web sites.
Back in the mid '90's, I headed up a semi-successful online gaming publication called REVOLUTIONS.
At the time, the web was still in it's infancy, and there was less cyber real estate than today.
Along with my eager staff of few, we did our best to compete with the high end news sites (backed by multi-million dollar publishing corporations) taking over the web.
Back then, press qualifications were much looser for E3, and we were able to pass ourselves (green teen gaming dorks) off as legit publication...utilizing a federal tax id number from my Dad's company.
We had T-shirts silk screened and business cards printed off my computer for our credentials.
Having snuck in to the industry's premier event thorough the back door, we would weasel ourselves into the press conferences and private software showings usually reserved for retailers and investors.
After a pretty long run, REVOLUTIONS closed its web doors. Though we scored several big exclusives over the big guys, our lives would eventually get in the way.
I still keep up with some of the guys, and I'll always remember fondly that season of my life.
Fifteen years later, and busier than ever, I came up with an ingenious idea: create a site that has no original content. Like a portal.
A Drudge Report for gaming industry news, of sorts.
Basically, scour the sea of gaming web sites (now in the hundreds) for the top stories and features of the day, essentially providing a supplement for readers who find the amount of gaming info available now exhausting to surf through.
So, that's what I'm aiming towards, and I'm pretty proud of it.
But I can't allow myself to get carried away...I have to be mindful of the amount of time I dedicate to keeping the site updated.
After all, fun has never been a source of income for me.
Not yet, at least.
