On Wednesday, Apple announced the new improved iPad (no enumeration).
I've been waiting for this for awhile...holding out since the very first iPad was released.
What's that? Brian McCollister doesn't have an iPad?!
Yes, it's true. Despite what some may think, I don't have to own the newest gadgets to be cutting edge.
In fact, I've rarely been an early adopter. Except that one time in Orlando that I camped out for the Wii. But hey, it was the Wii!
By the time the iPad 2 came around, rumors already were circulating about another improvement coming down the pike. So I passed again, hoping the third time would indeed be the charm.
I knew limited quantities make pre-ordering online from the Apple Store a fool's errand, and there was absolutely NO way I would join a mile-long line to camp outside a retailer next Friday. Having resolved myself on waiting at least another month for stock to replenish, I reloaded every now and then in an attempt to break into Apple's already exhausted servers (just out of curiosity, of course).
So you can imagine my shock when the store SLOWLY loaded up on my screen. I cautiously proceeded, knowing any minute the site could lock up on me. Click by click, scroll by scroll, I delved further into the iPad family section, into the compare models menu, and onward into the shop.
Holding my breath when I saw the model I wanted (hint: it's black), I was on the edge of my seat when I clicked "add to cart".
Sweat drenched my palms as I added shipping and payment information.
My entire body tensed as I placed my final order, and melted into relief as the confirmation screen appeared with my receipt.
As I leaned back in my chair, the miracle slowly began to sink in: I successfully pre-ordered a new iPad the same day of it's announcement! While the world is waiting in ridiculous lines on March 16th, I'll have mine delivered right to my doorstep.
In the end, I always come to the same conclusion: it had to be God! Not that His priority is moving His children to the front of the line to obtain material possessions. But as long as our hearts in the right place and recognize Him as our source, I think He gets a kick out of surprising us now and then.
