Update on Dad
Tuesday, April 16 - 8pm
"...in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us." --Romans 8:37
After an excruciating discharge process yesterday (which took almost four hours) Dad is now back in Baton Rouge resting comfortably.
His bruised and battered body tells the story of his grueling week: bandages on his neck and arms from the IV line ports, blood from busted vessels turn murky shades of blue and violet under his thin, swollen skin. An extremely week and painful lumbar area screams from laying down flat for almost 4 days.
All of the above, with a heart pumping at a measly 10 percent strength beats under the surface, unseen.
A heart of a champion.
Because Dad's spirit does not reflect the condition of his body. He is happy to be outside in the sunshine, taking a walk down Magazine Street in the humidity and having some ice cream from Baskin Robbins while waiting for his meds!
On Friday he will return to New Orleans to meet with the top cardiologist at Oschner. Then he will visit his local doctor next week.
I am believing he is wholeheartedly dedicated to this challenge. Pun intended.
Prayer point: Now that he's home without the beeping heart monitors and hourly interruptions from the nurses while he sleeps, I pray that Dad will not become complacent in his newfound freedom. That his attitude would be the same outside the hospital as it was in room 322. That he would be vigilant in taking care of himself, and that God would not just strengthen his physical heart but his spiritual heart as well!
I told him that the prayers of hundreds across the nation were what brought him this far - an unending faith network of family, friends (and friends of friends), ministers, employees and even strangers who were touched by Ashleigh's Facebook updates. The God I know will squeeze every last drop out of a crises to make the maximum impact in our worlds.
