This is a funny and interesting story.
When leaving my place, I saw a girl trying to get into another apartment. I could tell she had been traveling because she had a suitcase and backpack. She looked exausted. She asked me for help and explained that the friend she was in town visiting had given her the wrong keyes. She told me just got off the plane and just wanted to take a shower, and her friend wasn't getting off of work until 9pm.
It was 4pm.
Compassion came over me, and I invited her to come to our apartment, and use our bathroom. She accepted, though I was a little hesitant to bring a stranger into my home (which was also a total wreck), but I prayed everything would be okay.
Eventually she was able to get in touch with her friend and it turns out she had been trying to get into the wrong apartment. We went and found the right one and she stored her luggage there.
Marie stayed with me the rest of the time until her friend got back. After going along with me on my errands, we had dinner at restaurant in downtown Burbank. Over dinner, she told me her life story:
She's 28, lives in North Carolina (where she's a Yoga instructor), and she loves dogs (so much that she's a volunteer at a local animal shelter). Consequently, she began to show us pictures of her dog, Guinness.
We returned to the apartment and I passed time learning Yoga stretches from her.
Brian came home from school and visited her for awhile, and he sought Marie's opinion on what type of dog we should eventually get.
When 9:30 came around, we hated to tell her bye.
It's really amazing. I spent my whole evening with a total stranger...but enjoyed it.
In the end, I'm really glad I reached out to her. You never know when you'll have the opportunity to be and blessing.
And make a new Facebook friend.
